Summer Sunday in Deutschland
wind on my back, taking my time
slight sweat in my shirt
walking alone, along the Rhine.

Passed by cars, trains and RVs
motorcycles of all kind
little dogs in bicycle baskets
walking alone, along the Rhine.

Passed by same on far side
no one walking along the Rhine
as on my side
no one alone, taking their time.

Passed by the water and boats
waving tourists killing time
barges of coal, cars and oil
walking alone, along the Rhine.

Passed bolted walls, tents
RVs parked for a time
ducks and gulls hanging together
walking alone, along the Rhine.

Stopped at beer garden
since taking my time
now I feel fine
walking alone, along the Rhine.
